Joe LaGuardiaJoe LaGuardia is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., but has for a long time been an Indians fan in Cleveland.  He is married to Bernadette and has two children, one in Buffalo and one in Tucson.  His daughter in Buffalo has given him a beautiful granddaughter, who is now two and a half, and is expecting to give him a grandson in February, 2014.  His son in Tucson is working on his doctoral dissertation in English Literature and is recently married.

Joe has two Master’s Degrees, one in English literature and one in Religious Studies.  After teaching for a short time in Pennsylvania, he has been an Assistant Principal or Principal in high schools for almost all of his career.  Some schools where he has been proud to serve include Lake Catholic HS in Mentor, Beachwood HS, Orange HS, and Chagrin Falls HS. Joe finished his career as Personnel Director for North Royalton City Schools.

Joe has been the Dean of the Cleveland Ecumenical Institute for Religious Studies for the past seven years.  He has been an instructor at Ursuline College, serving as Director and Assistant Director of the PASE program (for teachers seeking Master’s Degrees).  He has taught Educational Philosophy in the Ed Admin program for five summers, and last year served as Interim Associate Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.  In August 2013, he became the Coordinator for the Assessment of Student Learning for the College.  In 2013-15, he will add the Associate Dean role to his ASL role.

Joe has published a book of his poetry and some photographs, called LIFE SEASONS, which is still available from Lulu.com.

He and his wife sang in the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus and Joe went on a tour to London, Oxford, and Belgium with the chorus and orchestra.  He has sung with them on the stage of Carnegie Music Hall.  Joe was an organist at one time and got to play one of the organs in the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in a pre-concert event.

Joe has conducted several courses on Richard Rohr’s works, including A LEVER AND A PLACE TO STAND and FALLING UPWARD.  He taught a course for the Cleveland Ecumenical Institute for Religious Studies (CEIRS) in the spring of 2014.   He has often been asked to preach at Heights Christian Church in Shaker Heights and conducts a weekly Bible study, publishing his biblical and spiritual reflections on his website, biblicaljoe.com.
