These Four

[In remembrance of Dr. Ginny Marion]

If Goodness could encapsulate itself

And hide like summer sun does

    In garden fresh tomatoes

If Courage could reveal its shape

    Like autumn leaves

    Strip tease their colors

If Joy could find a nest for winter

    And stock it

    Full of nuts

If Wisdom could arrive without a limp

    And curl up before

    A crackling fire

Then we would recognize these four

    Already showed themselves to us

    And glisten in our memories.
